This year it was Cricklade's turn to act as host. The Twinning visit was a great success, if somewhat brief, but we packed a lot in.
The visit began with the arrival of our visitors at Oxford, just as the heavens opened. A picnic (if you can call it that hiding from the rain in the coach), was followed by a brief visit to the shops and then a tour of the Oxford colleges. Arrival in Cricklade was at 5pm and our guests departed with their various hosts.
Sunday was a day for hosts and guests, the day ending with English tea in the Town Hall and a ghost walk of Cricklade (many thanks to Clive Wilce for entertaining us so well).
Monday our French guests returned via London. The trip ended the way it started in the pouring rain. However once we had negotiated the traffic, we were able to do a tour of London and then spend an hour or so on Oxford Street. Fortunately the rain had stopped and we returned to Heathrow in the sunshine.
Our thanks to all who helped organise the trip. Special thanks go to Linda and Nichola Ager for providing the music at the English Tea, to Jan Booth for providing a tour of the Junior School and to David and Frances Tetlow for entertaining the Mayor of Sucé in style.
We are holding the Call My Bluff Wine Tasting again this year. The event will be in the Town Hall on the 29th September. Food will be provided and a couple of glasses of wine. Tickets are available at £7.50 so please book early.
The basic idea for those not familiar with the TV programme "Call My Bluff" is this. You are given a wine to taste and then you are given three descriptions of the wine and its origin. You have to choose the correct provenance for the wine. Of course you will be given some wine tasting tips beforehand to make the task easier
